SUMMARY:GCR TAKING PART IN A THREE (3) DAYS NATIONAL PSEA NETWORK WORKSHOP AT UN WOMEN COMPOUND\, YAOUNDE-CAMEROON [27-29\,APRIL 2026]
DESCRIPTION:Detailed report \n1. Introduction \nThis report provides a comprehensive summary of the three-day workshop on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) which took place at the UN Women compound in Yaounde-Cameroon. The workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge\, skills\, and coordination mechanisms in addressing sexual exploitation\, abuse\, and gender-based violence within humanitarian and development contexts. This workshop brought a total of 35 participants drawn from the North\, Far North\, East\, Centre\, North West\, Adamawa\, and South West Regions of Cameroon. \n2. Objectives of the Workshop \nThe workshop aimed to enhance understanding of PSEA and GBV concepts\, promote survivor-centered approaches\, strengthen referral pathways\, and improve coordination among stakeholders. \n#Day 1 focused on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). Participants were introduced to key concepts\, including definitions\, principles\, and the importance of safeguarding vulnerable populations such as women\, children\, refugees\, and internally displaced persons. Discussions highlighted the importance of confidentiality\, informed consent\, and victim-centered approaches. Participants explored challenges in reporting PSEA cases\, including fear\, stigma\, cultural barriers\, and power dynamics. The role of organizations and partners was emphasized\, particularly the need for policies\, training\, and accountability mechanisms. The session also addressed victim support services\, including medical\, psychosocial\, legal\, and protection services\, as well as coordination and advocacy efforts. \n3. Summary of Day 1 Activities \n4. Summary of Day 2 Activities \nDay 2 focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV)\, including definitions\, forms\, and underlying causes such as gender inequality and harmful social norms. Participants examined various types of GBV\, including physical\, sexual\, emotional\, and economic violence.The session emphasized the survivor-centered approach\, highlighting principles such as safety\, confidentiality\, respect\, and non-discrimination. Participants engaged in discussions and role plays to better understand how to respond appropriately to survivors. \n5. Summary of Day 3 Activities \nDay 3 was devoted to building participants’ skills as trainers. They learned adult learning principles\, including how to engage diverse audiences\, adapt content for local needs\, and facilitate participatory learning. They also practiced designing localized training sessions and coordinating with different humanitarian actors. \n6. Case Scenarios and Participant Questions \nThroughout the training\, several real-life scenarios were shared. For example\, a participant recounted a case of a survivor hesitant to report due to fear of retaliation. Others asked how to handle disclosures from minors and whether legal steps could be taken without parental consent. These concerns were addressed by emphasizing the need for safe reporting\, careful documentation\, and adherence to national child protection laws. \n7. Key Outcomes \nBy the end of the three days\, participants left with improved knowledge of GBV and PSEA\, stronger facilitation skills\, and practical tools to cascade training in their workplaces. They also committed to building stronger referral networks and ensuring survivor-centered care. \n8. Challenges Identified \nSeveral challenges were noted: gaps in regional coordination\, a lack of updated service mapping\, and communication barriers. Some participants also mentioned that organizational hierarchy sometimes discourages reporting. \n9. Recommendations \nKey recommendations included: updating service directories\, enhancing coordination between humanitarian actors\, and tailoring communication to local languages. Participants also suggested regular follow-up sessions to monitor progress and address emerging issues. \n10. Conclusion \nIn conclusion\, the three-day ToT equipped participants with critical skills and knowledge to be effective trainers in PSEA and GBV response. Their next step will be to cascadethese learnings\, ensuring the broader humanitarian community in Cameroon benefits from these strengthened capacities.

SUMMARY:GCR TAKING PART IN A ONE DAY PRACTICAL WORKSHOP TO DEVELOP A MONITORING SYSTEM FOR HOUSEHOLD PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNANCE\, CIVIL RIGHTS AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AT JUSTICE AND PEACE SERVICE\, ARCHDIOCESE OF BAMENDA
DESCRIPTION:Organizer and venue\n\nThis program was organized by Justice and Peace Service of the Archdiocese of Bamenda and it took place at Justice and Peace Service conference hall\, Big Mankon\, Bamenda-Cameroon on Friday 8th May\, 2026. This workshop brought together over 13 participants [Civil Society Organizations\, Consultants/educationist]. This program was facilitated by the Mme. Raphaela Kianda [Administrative Service Coordinator of JPS]\, Mr. Rinda Khaweb Banluem [MEAL officer]. For other support staff we have: Miss. Mai Maria [Administrative Assistant] who gave media support\, Miss. Tohnain Veronique\n[Access to Justice Officer] who gave aid to the facilitator during teaching\, Miss. Ngom Tabitha [House keeper] supported in the kitchen.\nGCR TAKING PART IN A ONE DAY \nBackground\nThe importance of developing a monitoring tool to tract an indicator or activity\ncannot be overemphasized. However\, this also requires an excellent coordination\, documentation and reporting of data collected. Equally\, collecting data for incident or baseline data on Knowledge\, Attitude and Practice [KAP] on a certain aspect is equally very essential since it helps\npeople to understand if peoples’ knowledge\, attitude and practice on a particular subject is acceptable by the Society or the State. For example\, getting married below 18 years is not legal but however\, you may still have some communities or families that find nothing wrong with that [early marriage]. Furthermore\, you may have other families that consider it okay not to send their\nchildren to school. This workshop was trying to bridge this gap to develop a tool that will collect data in the household on aspects like abuse\, exploitation\, deprivation of child rights\, GBV\, coordination in the household and decision making. This is very excellent because cases like rape in the community will.easily be reported in this tool: hence immediate response or referrals. The data\nreceived will also be used for advocacy and as a baseline data by other partners.\n Objectives\nThe over-all objective of this practical workshop was to develop a monitoring\nsystem for household participation in governance\, civil rights and community\nparticipation.\nMethodology\nThis workshop adopted an interactive method wherein participants contributed\nstrongly on household participation in governance\, civil rights and community\nparticipation. There was equally group work on:\n1. Designing the monitoring framework [session 1]\ni. Key indicators for household participation\, governance and\ncivil rights\nii. Data collection methods\niii. Frequency and reporting structure (quarterly focus)\n2. Tools implementation strategy [session 2]. i. Development of simple data collection tools (templates\, checklists)\nii. Proposed questions on template\nResults\nThe objective of this training was met. However\, a WhatsApp group has been\ncreated comprising of the participants and JRS staff. This group will equally\nreview the monitoring tool when its has been established [this does not mean\nthat they are the only ones to review the tool] before being deployed.\nConclusion\nThe program was excellent and the main goal was achieved.
